What are Tech Angels?

The Tech Angels are a sudent run group at Wellington Girls’ College who mentor teachers and other students in the use of Information Technology. We run lunchtime sessions for students in Year 9 to 12 students, focusing on the use of software such as Adobe and Macromedia products. Year 13 Tech Angels also mentor teachers in a one on one basis in similar programs, as well as in general Information Technology skills such as file management and using digital cameras.

Who can be a Tech Angel?

Entry into the programme is open, however a desire to learn and a passion for education are valuable assets. For students in Years 9 -12 who are just begining, lunchtime training sessions are run where they are able to develop their technology skills. Year 13s and confident Year 12s are able to mentor teachers.

What do the Tech Angels do?

Tech Angels who mentor staff members have sessions with their assigned teacher. In these sessions the teacher becomes the student and the student becomes the teacher.Together they work towards a goal, such as a website building project or completing an educational resource.

Why be a Tech Angel?

One of the most valuable assets in a person's life is their education, and being part of the Tech Angel programme gives students a chance to extend their education into another area - technology. Being part of the Tech Angels not only develops skills in Information Technology, but also allows education to become more fun through the use of technology. Being able to give something back to your school community through the mentoring of staff and students is also a great reason for becoming a Tech Angel - accept the light and pass it on!
